Historic Ford's Theatre, the site of President Abraham Lincoln's assassination
in 1865, has become Washington's most popular setting for small-scale stage
productions. This remarkable transformation was largely effected by the Ford's
Theatre Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing the
structure as a working theater while simultaneously preserving its unique status
as a national shrine. Ford's Theatre preserves and honors the memory of The
Great Emancipator while celebrating our nation's rich theatrical heritage. The
commitment of the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation to the Society's work is
reflected in its sponsorship of the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Civil War
Washington Teacher Fellows program, which brings dozens of teachers from across
the country each summer to Ford's Theatre.
